Product Description

Mullite Powder Used for Investment Casting Foundry Shell Making Process

Mullite powder is a fine, white-to-grey, refractory ceramic powder (3Al2O3·2SiO2) prized for its excellent high-temperature stability, low thermal expansion, and resistance to thermal shock, making it ideal for refractories in steel/glass, furnace parts, kiln furniture, and aerospace. Produced from alumina and silica sources, it's a crucial material for high-stress, high-heat industrial applications, available in various mesh sizes.

Key Properties
(1) Chemical Formula: 3Al2O3·2SiO2(Aluminum Silicate).
(2) High-Temperature Performance: Excellent mechanical strength and stability at extreme heat.
(3) Thermal Shock Resistance: Withstands rapid temperature changes without cracking.
(4) Low Thermal Expansion: Resists expansion and contraction with heat.
(5) Corrosion Resistance: Resists chemical attack.
(6) Physical Form: Fine, free-flowing powder, often micron or sub-micron sized.

Common Applications
(1) Refractories: Furnace linings, kiln furniture, checker bricks for hot blast stoves (steel/glass industries).
(2) Ceramics: Muffle tubes, thermocouple protection tubes, kiln rollers, and specialized ceramic components.
(3) Coatings: Thermal barrier coatings in aerospace.
(4) Precision Casting: Used in investment casting processes.

Production
Typically made by sintering or calcining blends of alumina (Al2O3) and silica (SiO2) sources, sometimes from natural minerals like kyanite.
